Curtains frame windows, add privacy, act as a room divider and function as ornamental door coverings. But conventional straight or curved curtain poles don’t fit every room. Flexible poles bend with ease, letting you fit curtains nearly anywhere in your house, including inside bay and bow windows and also angular spaces. Typically white or clear, flexible poles bend smoothly by hand, letting you customize your window treatment with no specialized tools.

Draw a line along the wall where you would like to mount the elastic curtain pole. Measure up from the window frame or the opening into the height you would like to install the pole and mark this point. Duplicate at regular intervals along the wall until you arrive at the end of the curtain run. Then, connect the lines with a straightedge, erasing the guide marks.

Hold the initial end bracket on the ceiling or ceiling, centering it on the end of the line. Mark the hardware holes with a pencil. Repeat on the opposite end of the guideline.

Mark the line on the wall or ceiling at regular intervals to indicate the support bracket places. Base the spacing on the instructions provided by the manufacturer; 30- to 36-inches is ordinary. Support mounts are required at every turn, so more angled configurations may require closer spacing. Since the pole is elastic, spacing supports each 48-inches, which works for some normal curtain poles, will boost the potential of sagging along the length of the pole. Hold the inside mounts on each installation point and then mark the screw holes with a pencil.

Drill pilot holes into every screw mark. Safe wall anchors into every hole not situated on a fireplace. Install each bracket with the hardware provided by the manufacturer.

Hold the end of the elastic rod against the first end bracket at the run. Hold the pole against the following support bracket, bending it with your hands until it curves right into it. Repeat this process throughout the run, without securing the pole to the mounts, to create the completed shape.

Create more angled turns from the elastic rod. Assess the distance between the first two mounts and mark this distance on the pole with a wax pencil. Repeat this process down the length of the pole. Bend the pole, using a countertop edge as leverage if necessary, at every point.

Slide the panels on the pole and attach the pole to the mounts with the hardware provided by the manufacturer. Attach decorative finials into the ends of the pole if desired.
