The Exmark Lazer Z HP is a compact, zero-turn lawn mower that features a floating deck with high-lift cutting blades. It is accessible with a Kawasaki or a Kohler engine and a Battery Council International Group U1-type battery. The 12-volt dual battery sets out 315 cold cranking amperes, or amps, when starting the motor and 35 amp-hours while the motor runs.

Cold Cranking Amps

The number of amps a battery sets out at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 seconds, while keeping 7.2 or more volts, is the cold cranking amp rating. A battery with a high rating is more efficient than a battery with a low score when starting a lawn mower motor, particularly in cold weather. Cold temperatures thicken motor oil and lower the capability of the chemicals in the battery to produce electrical energy. So more cold cranking amps are needed to start the engine.
