Boots are made for walking, so storing them can be challenging. Once I find the perfect autumn boots and spend nearly twice as far as I typically spend on regular shoes, they often wind up in a pile in the back of the cupboard or in a hodgepodge assortment from the door.

With the advent of autumn and our penchant for booties, riding boots, heeled and horizontal pairs, cowboy boots and all in between, I thought I’d share a few storage solutions to help your care for them. Which is the best match for you?

For Your Minimalist

Wire organizers from Urban Outfitters pool distinct items together in this cozy, 600-square-foot leasing at the Venice Canals section of Los Angeles — including photographer Annie McElwain’s galoshes along with her three favorite, well-worn boots. This is a great idea for people that really only wear exactly the same couple pairs time and again.

California Closets Twin Cities

For Your Lover of Low Maintenance

This walk-in cupboard leaves sufficient room in the foot of the pants rack for storage. It is not flashy, but it makes each boot pair visible and accessible — a fantastic boot-storage match for the low-maintenance individual in your household.

For Your Eclectic Fashionista

Blogger Nina Van de Goor’s industrial étagère fits perfectly in an eclectic home. The boots include splashes of candy- and berry-toned color to her neutral space, along with the shelving displays off all her footwear in plain sight.

For Your Organizer on a Budget

Spending for custom boot packs, boot racks and boot shapers adds up. This homeowner simply upcycled from her own cupboard, using skirt hangers to hang her boots so the boot tops do not tilt over to the side. Genius.

For Your Utilitarian

The owner of this Oregon house loves everything equine. A line of her brilliant cowboy boots greets guests at the entrance, even though a photograph of her riding perches above. The entrance bench and boot storage let the owner pick and choose which pair to wear for the weekend trip on one of four horses.
